Our Mission
National Organization of First Nation Lands Managers which will actively network towards the enhancement of professional development and technical expertise in the functions of Lands Management and which will also incorporate First Nations values and beliefs in Lands Management always keeping in mind the grass-root practices when dealing with Lands Management.
Our Objectives
The objective of the National Aboriginal Lands Managers Association (NALMA) is to provide a working environment which will be comfortable to all First Nations Lands Managers, to network between each other on land related issues, and at the same time create a system that will assist First Nations interests in various lands management functions.
NALMA strives to:
Develop
- ongoing communication links across Canada
- fair and consistent processes for administrating First Nation lands
- systems of lands management mechanisms and models which can be used by First Nations throughout Canada
Promote
- and market the National and Regional Lands Associations throughout Canada
- the incorporation of First Nation values, culture and beliefs into Lands Management systems and processes
- the recognition of First Nation Lands Managers for the successful work they have done in the area of Lands Management
Provide
- Professional Lands Management Certification Program (PLMCP) to maintain and improve the the qualifications and standards of First Nation Lands Management Professionals
- technical expertise and guidance to First Nations and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC, formerly INAC) regarding lands management issues
- a unified process for Regional Lands Associations to share information and establish and maintain information links across Canada through the Board of Directors
Participate
- at National, Regional and International Aboriginal Lands Management organization meetings and conferences
- in the development and implementation of First Nation Lands policies and procedures
