Specific Claims: The New Process
May 8th–9th, 2012
Fairmont Château Laurier, Ottawa, ON

In June 2011, the Specific Claims Tribunal Rules of Practice and Procedure came into force and the Registry of the Specific Claims Tribunal opened for the filing of specific claims. The creation of the Specific Claims Tribunal is a key element of the Government of Canada’s Justice at Last: Specific Claims Action Plan aimed at improving the specific claims process and accelerating the resolution of specific claims. What progress has been made since the announcement of Justice at Last: Specific Claims Action Plan? How is the Specific Claims Tribunal operating to date? What issues are being encountered?

This forum assembles an expert faculty to provide delegates with an update on specific claims, including an update on specific claims policy, the specific claims process, negotiations, and an in-depth update on the operation of the Specific Claims Tribunal. In addition, the expert faculty will provide delegates with insight with respect to researching specific claims, preparing and drafting claim submissions, and current issues in specific claims and will facilitate discussion on what further steps need to be taken to improve the specific claims process and accelerate the resolution of specific claims.
